SAMPLE PROJECTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Interim Leadership and Management
  • Served as Greater Lowell Community Foundation's Interim Executive Director during two leadership transitions. Managed the day-to-day operations of the foundation; facilitated a $5 million endowed gift; assessed organizational capacity, policies, and procedures and provided recommendations to the agency's Board of Directors; implemented changes to improve operations, resource development, communications, and public relations; produced the agency's 2010 Annual Report (click here to download the publication as a PDF); and much more.

During this time, the agency's Board of Directors and Search Consultant reviewed the agency's strategic direction, defined the desired qualifications and experience for a permanent Executive Director, and searched for and hired GLCF's next leader.

Greater Lowell Community Foundation is a $32 million philanthropic institution that has been serving donors and supporting nonprofits and their constituents in Lowell and Greater Lowell since 1997.
  • From the agency's Board President, Joe Bartolotta, EVP, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Eastern Bank:

"On two separate occasions, Andrea has stepped in as interim executive director of the Greater Lowell Community Foundation - an organization I've had the pleasure of serving as board member and board chair for several years. And in each instance, Andrea stepped right in and provided stable leadership, while also demonstrating expertise in a range of areas, from fiduciary responsibility to marketing. But what impressed me most, however, was her ability to juggle a part-time interim executive director job with her consulting practice. Sound leadership, broad expertise and multi-tasking skills ... You cannot ask for anything more than that in an executive."

  • Served as Interim Executive Director of Concilio Hispano, a Latino human services and adult education nonprofit, during a major managerial transition and eventual merger with Centro Latino (de Chelsea). Worked with board and senior staff to realign the agency's budget after a year with a 10% deficit, stabilized operations and continued programs during the exploration of a nonprofit merger. Supervised senior staff; supported the board, transition consultant, merger consultant and merger committee; aligned the agency's program and organizational budgets; worked with funders and contract managers to support the agency through the transition; transferred knowledge and information to merger partner's Executive Director and senior managers during the transition and post-merger.

From the Past Chair of the agency's Board of Directors:

"Andrea is one of the most efficient and capable people I know. She had the skill set necessary to quickly do an in-depth assessment of the agency's situation and make recommendations to the board of what needed to be done to stabilize the agency so it would be an attractive merger partner. She identified difficult but necessary decisions that the board needed to make. She worked with staff to implement these decisions on a timely basis. Without any hesitation, I highly recommend Andrea as a consultant for agencies in crisis or transition."
  • Provided interim management and transition services for RESPOND, a Somerville-based domestic violence prevention and education organization, during a leadership transition. Worked with board, senior staff and key stakeholders to maintain stable operations during the search for a new Executive Director. Provided coaching and supervision to senior staff; supported board and several working committees; ensured the successful completion of new shelter and relocation of tenants and staff from a temporary shelter; analyzed the agency's resource development performance, provided strategic recommendations for future fundraising and began implementation; and worked with new Executive Director during the managerial transition.

From one of the agency's Interim Co-Executive Directors:

"Andrea did an exceptional job acting as coach and mentor to Interim Co-Executive Directors, key advisor to our board of directors on the executive search and other managerial and governance issues, and troubleshooter for a significant real estate development project during a difficult phase when construction and renovation plans were many months behind schedule. Thanks to Andrea's expertise in project management, knowledge of real estate development and artful negotiation skills, we were able to get the project back on track and open the doors to a new, expanded domestic violence shelter just a few months after she completed her time with the agency."

"Andrea brings a wealth of experience, professionalism, independent expertise and the ability to work easily and effectively as part of a team. I highly recommend her as a nonprofit consultant with abilities ranging from technical assistance and project management to leadership development and organizational transition."
